Description of Services
No matter the cause – chest pains, a broken bone or a serious trauma, Selby General Hospital’s Emergency Department is ready to provide you quality and timely care.
Our Emergency Department is a 24-hour service staffed by full time emergency medicine specialists who partner with the hospital’s specialty services to meet your health needs.
Upon arrival a quick assessment of your condition is completed. All patients are triaged into three categories depending on the status of their condition:
- Emergency patients are seen immediately. This includes people with life-threatening conditions such as a heart attack or loss of limb.
- Urgent patients are those that are seen as quickly as possible, usually within the hour. These are patients with obvious fractures or abdominal pain.
- Non-urgent patients, after receiving necessary first aid, will be seen as time permits based on the status of other patients. These may include minor sprains or strains, bronchitis, sore throats or minor burns.
